Turn on Wi-Fi & connect to a network
- In your device’s
Settings menu, touch Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi.
- Devices running Android 4.3 or lower have a different
Settings icon.

- If Wi-Fi isn’t already on, slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position.
- The device scans for Wi-Fi networks. To connect, touch a network name.
- Secured networks display a Lock icon and may ask for security details.
- Your device will remember the network, along with security details, and connect automatically when in range.
- To change network settings, touch & hold the network name.
Trouble connecting to Wi-Fi
If you can’t connect to Wi-Fi, try the following steps:
- Turn off your device, then turn it back on.
- Unplug your modem and/or router for 15 seconds.
- Remove your Wi-Fi network (instructions below), then add your Wi-Fi network again.
- Make sure you’re using the correct network password.
- Make sure that your router's security settings are set up properly.
- Confirm that your router's firmware (software used by the router) is up-to-date by following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Check your Wi-Fi connection at another location, like a friend’s house. If you can access Wi-Fi there, the problem might be specific to your original location, not your device.
- In your device’s
Settings menu, touch Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi.

- Touch & hold a Wi-Fi network in the list of networks.
- Touch Modify network.
- Select Show advanced options. (You may have to lower the keyboard first. To do so, touch the
back button.)
- Touch None under Proxy Settings, then touch Manual in the menu that opens.
- Enter the proxy settings.
- Touch Save.
- In your device’s
Settings menu, touch Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi.

- In the Wi-Fi settings screen, touch
Menu > Advanced.
- Touch one of the setting options below.
- Touch to a receive notification in the Status bar when your device finds a Wi-Fi network.
- Choose how your device handles Wi-Fi when it is asleep.
- You can keep Wi-Fi on, keep Wi-Fi on only if your device is charging, or turn Wi-Fi off.
- If you turn Wi-Fi off, you may increase your mobile data usage.
- Check the box to improve location services and scan for Wi-Fi networks even when Wi-Fi is off.
- Wi-Fi scanning is primarily used to improve location services even when Wi-Fi is off.
- Check the box to automatically avoid using networks with a low-quality or unreliable Internet connection.
- Touch to specify the frequency range of operation.
- Check the box to minimize battery usage when Wi-Fi is on.
- In your device’s
Settings menu, touch Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi.

- Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position.
- Touch the
Plus icon.
- Enter the network name (SSID) and other security details, if needed.
- Touch Save.
- In your device’s
Settings menu, touch Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi.

- Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the On position.
- In the Wi-Fi settings screen, touch the name of the network.
- Touch Forget.
If you still can't connect, contact, your internet service provider. You can also ask the Nexus Community or contactGoogle Play Support.

Configure Proxy Settings
For each Wi-Fi network you add, you can connect via a proxy.
Proxy settings for each Wi-Fi network must be set up separately.

Add a hidden WiFi Network
You can add a Wi-Fi network that does not broadcast its name (SSID) or is out of range.
Your device will connect to this network automatically the next time you are in range.
Remove a WiFi Network
You can forget a saved Wi-Fi network if you don't want your device to connect automatically.
