LTE for Nexus & Google Play edition devices

Compatible devices

The following devices available on Google Play are LTE-compatible:
  • Nexus 5
  • Nexus 7 (2013) LTE
  • HTC One Google Play edition
  • Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition

LTE networks & coverage

If your mobile data plan includes LTE coverage, your device will always try to connect to LTE. If an LTE network isn't available, your device may use another type of network, such as HSPA/HSPA+ or 3G.
Some devices are only compatible with LTE and won't connect to other types of networks.

Ensure your device is connected to LTE

You can check if your device is connected to LTE in two ways:
  • Signal strength indicator. If your device is connected to LTE, you’ll see the  LTE connectivity indicator at the top of the screen.
The LTE connectivity indicator appears only when your device isn't connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Settings menu. Go to  Settings > About phone > Status > Mobile network type, and see if your device is connected to LTE.

LTE connectivity issues

The following examples can result in LTE connectivity issues:
  • Your current mobile service plan doesn't include LTE coverage.
  • Your SIM card is older and not compatible with LTE.
  • Your SIM card isn't working correctly.
If you experience LTE connectivity or coverage issues, contact your mobile service provider.

Can't sign in on your Android device

You may be asked to enter your Google Account username and password on your Android device. Here are some situations where you're prompted to provide this information:
  • You've made too many pattern attempts to unlock your screen.
  • You're purchasing apps or other content on Google Play.
  • You're accessing Gmail, YouTube, or another Google app.
If you can't sign in after you enter your username and password, you can follow troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. You can also choose to reset your device to factory settings and add another Google Account.

Can't unlock your Android device

If you’ve made too many pattern attempts or forgotten your PIN or password, you can try other methods to unlock your Android device.

Sign in to your Google Account

For pattern passcodes only
If you set up a pattern passcode and made multiple attempts to unlock your device, you can touch Forgot Pattern and be prompted to enter your Google Account username and password. This will take you to the Security options in the main Settings menu, where you can reset your device’s password.
If you can’t sign in to your Google Account, try these troubleshooting steps to enter your username or password.

Reset your device to factory settings

If you can’t unlock your device using your pattern, PIN, or password, you can reset your phone or tablet to factory settings.
Important: Performing a factory data reset permanently erases all data on the device.

Factory reset using the bootloader menu

To reset a Nexus device to factory settings using the bootloader menu, select your device below for the factory data reset instructions:
If you have a different Android device and don't know how to perform a factory reset, visit your manufacturer's support site.

Factory reset using Android Device Manager

If you connected your device to Android Device Manager, you can remotely erase your device’s data.
  1. Sign in to android.com/devicemanager.
  2. Choose the device you want to erase from the menu.
  3. Select Erase.
If you haven’t set up Android Device Manager, follow these steps to add your device.

You can connect a keyboard, mouse, or even a joystick or other input device to your device via USB or Bluetooth and use it just as you would with a PC.
To connect more than one USB device at a time, use a powered USB hub to reduce the drain on your device's battery.
Important: Using external devices such as keyboards via USB will cause a significant additional drain on your battery, as will continuous use of a mouse via Bluetooth.
To pair and connect a Bluetooth input devices to your device:
  1. Make sure your Bluetooth input device is in pairing mode.
  2. Touch Settings > Wireless & Networks > Bluetooth.
  3. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
  4. Touch the name of your device near the top of the screen, so that the text below says "Visible to all nearby Bluetooth devices".
  5. Touch Search for devices.
  6. When the name or ID of your Bluetooth device appears, touch it and follow the instructions.

Keyboards

In addition to entering text, you can use your keyboard to navigate your device's features:

  • Pressing Return when an item is selected is equivalent to touching that item.
  • Pressing Escape is equivalent to touching Back.
  • Press Tab or Shift-Tab to move from field to field in a form or other screen with multiple text fields.

Mice

When you connect a mouse to your device and move the mouse, an arrow-shaped cursor appears, just as on a computer:
  • Use the mouse to move the cursor.
  • Clicking, pressing, and dragging with the mouse button is equivalent to touching, touching & holding, and dragging with your finger.
  • Only one mouse button is supported.
  • If your mouse has a trackball or scroll wheel, you can use it to scroll both vertically and horizontally.

Other input devices

You can connect joysticks, gamepads, and other input devices to your device. If they work without special drivers or adapters on your PC, they will likely work with your device. However, games and other apps must be designed to support any special features of an input device, such as dedicated buttons or other controls, to take full advantage of them.

Back up your data using Android Backup Service

You can back up data connected to one or more of your Google Accounts using Android Backup Service. If you need to replace your device or erase its data, you can restore your data for any accounts that were previously backed up.
If you're using a tablet with multiple users, only the tablet's owner can see the backup & reset options.
To back up your data, follow these steps:

Learn What data  &  Settings are restorted

Automatically restore app settings

You can choose to restore settings and other data when you reinstall an app. This feature requires that you are backing up your data with your Google Account and that the app is using the backup service. For certain apps, not all data may be backed up and restored.

To restore app settings on your device, follow these steps:

  1. Open your device's Settings menu.
  2. Under "Personal," touch Backup & restore.
  3. Check the box next to "Automatic restore."
