Back up your data using Android Backup Service

You can back up data connected to one or more of your Google Accounts using Android Backup Service. If you need to replace your device or erase its data, you can restore your data for any accounts that were previously backed up.
If you're using a tablet with multiple users, only the tablet's owner can see the backup & reset options.
To back up your data, follow these steps:
  1. Open your device's Settings menu.
  2. Under "Personal," touch Backup & reset.
  3. Check the box next to "Back up my data."
If you don't already have a backup account on your device, you can touch Backup account to add one.

Data & settings restored using Android Backup Service

When you add your Google Account to a Nexus or Google Play edition device, your data that was previously backed up is restored to the device.

Automatically restore app settings

You can choose to restore settings and other data when you reinstall an app. This feature requires that you are backing up your data with your Google Account and that the app is using the backup service. For certain apps, not all data may be backed up and restored.

To restore app settings on your device, follow these steps:

  1. Open your device's Settings menu.
  2. Under "Personal," touch Backup & restore.
  3. Check the box next to "Automatic restore."
  4. Erase your device's data

If you want to erase all your personal data from your device, follow these steps:

  1. Open your device's Settings menu.
  2. Under "Personal," touch Backup & reset.
  3. Touch Reset phone or Reset tablet.

All of your data is erased from your device, including your Google Account, any other accounts, your system and app settings, and any downloaded applications.

After resetting your device, you'll need to re-enter the same information requested when you first set it up. If you've been backing up your data to a Google Account, an option during the setup process allows you to restore it.
